Brokers Comments: The Swan 51 was German Frers first design for Nautor. The model was introduced to the Swan range in 1981 and is a very fast yacht capable of race winning performance, yet can also be sailed short-handed and makes for a superb cruising yacht. Grandee has been set up and equipped mainly as a family cruising yacht. She had additions and improvements to make her more comfortable and safe. These include a bow thruster, generator, heating, furling head stays for genoa and staysail, fully battened main system and a modernised winch package. Her navigation and other equipment have also been upgraded. She also has a second entry/exit hatch to the master cabin allowing safe passage down below even in heavy weather. She has also been recently fitted with four Andersen electric winches replacing many deck winches now made redundant by the addition of rope clutches. Grandee has been meticulously kept and has many further improvements and is offered in excellent condition. Owners Comments: Grandee has a good history having been sailed in British waters during the 1980’s. She went to Mallorca in 1990 and in 1991 was sold to a German Owner who kept her in Palma. In early 1994, she was sold again to a British Owner and they returned her to England, after enjoying a season with her, to put her through a general re-fit which included epoxy treatment of the under water area and Awlgrip panting of the top sides. Grandee participated in the 1995 Swan European Cup in England before undergoing further improvements to the equipment, electronics and sails. Later in the year she left England for a voyage that would take her half way around the world. Much of her sailing was done with just two people and this included a 3,500 mile non stop voyage. In 1996 she won the ARC and in 1998 she was shipped back to the UK from Australia and placed on the market. Purchased in 1999 by her current Owners and sailed in the 1999 ARC, the yacht was fully surveyed and has subsequently been used for family sailing in the Channel and Solent waters. She underwent a refit in 2001 before again taking part in the Swan Europeans and during the summer of 2002, the Owner with friends and family, cruised Grandee from England down to the Mediterranean, arriving in Palma in October. She is now based in the UK.
